Here is how this works in practice. Our underwater camera ops across Australia hold ADAS (Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme) Part 2 or above, DAN-aligned dive insurance, and today's dive medicals, and they work the country's most demanding marine environments: the Great Barrier Reef (UNESCO 1981 — the world's largest coral reef system), Ningaloo Coast (UNESCO 2011 — whale shark migration April-July), Shark Bay (UNESCO 1991 — Monkey Mia dolphin encounters, dugong and Hamelin Pool stromatolites), Lord Howe Island (UNESCO 1982 — subtropical Pacific), and Heron and Lady Elliot Islands at the southern GBR for turtle and manta ray work.

Here is the short of it. Standard kit runs ARRI Alexa Mini LF in SeaTec or Gates housings, RED Komodo and V-Raptor in SPL housings, Sony Venice 2 Rialto extension housings for tight reef-shelf shots, and Phantom Flex 4K via cross-border partners. We set up dive support through Mike Ball Dive Expeditions and Pro Dive Cairns, Quicksilver Cruises out of Port Douglas, and Tasmanian Bruny Island operators for cooler southern marine work.

Here is the breakdown. The underwater heritage shaping our crews is major: James Wan's Aquaman and Aquaman. The Lost Kingdom underwater units worked out of Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast, Avatar Way of Water (2022) drew on Australian and adjacent New Zealand performance-capture pipelines including Sam Worthington's Sydney-based involvement, and Australian wildlife filmmaking from David Attenborough's BBC reef productions to ABC's natural-history strands has built a deep operator pool.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. We file Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) permits, DBCA approvals for Shark Bay and Ningaloo, Lord Howe Island Marine Park clearances, and Parks and Wildlife Tasmania permits for Bruny Island and Tasman Peninsula work. Aboriginal Sea Country consultation runs through Classic Owner groups across the GBR catchment. We plan all reef and outer-reef shoots around the cyclone-free April-October Queensland window for safety and scene matching.
